VOTE LIBERAL DEMOCRAT ON 7 MAY

Lib Dems choose candidate for Walthamstow seat

Waltham Forest E-Guardian Monday 30th March 2015

The Liberal Democrats have chosen announced their candidate to challenge for Stella Creasy’s Walthamstow seat.

Steven Cheung, 25, said he is “fed up” with the direction the area is heading, with growing numbers of bookmakers and fast food establishments.

Mr Cheung, who works in finance, was a torchbearer ahead of the Olympic Games in 2012 and was elected as the Mayor of the London 2012 Olympic Village.

In 2008, Mr Cheung was appointed by the Ministry of Justice as a young advisor and received a Princess Diana Award in 2009.

He has pledged to donate half of his salary if elected to local communities and organisations.

Mr Cheung said:

The establishment is becoming more and more out-dated and irrelevant.

I want to go into politics to challenge and change the system from within.

I joined the political party that won’t whip me if I voted against party line.

I want to be a bridge for the forgotten people and the establishment.

I believe my constituents will do the honourable thing: standing up for young, vulnerable people and the BME communities in London, creating a diverse voice in parliament and the people of Hong Kong.

If elected, Mr Cheung claims he will become the first elected East Asian legislator in British history.
